Dating from the 1950s the building in the Mechenstrasse in Bonn has been undergone extensive renovations and updated in energetic, functional and aesthetic sense. On the courtyard side a timber frame construction expands the living space and the interiors are provided with a spacious, modern feel. The building envelope is insulated to fit modern needs and the heating demand is reduced to an minimum of 26kWh/qm and year. The installed building utility includes a heat pump, powered by two 65m deep wells and a solar thermal system on the roof. The project also included the redesign of the exterior areas, and the conversion of an existing work shop to an artist's studio.
