Local landscape (mountains) and local culture (stone roof construction) are the main inspirator of our concept, in order to make the intervention very recognizable to the eyes of Chinese users. The local architecture in Guyang is also very traditional, the stone made roofs are very well integrating in the surrounding landscape, and these unique flat stones are also very important in some traditional Chinese landscape gardens, where they are used in a way to resemble the mountains skyline. The roof in this project is the main architectural element, becoming the icon of the new design, wrapping and covering all the single units within a single scattered and permeable intervention, where the architecture and the landscape design are combined tridimensionally. Our intention is to treat the new buildings as they traditionally do with the stones, aiming at a harmonious dialogue bewtween architecture and landscape. The different functions are distributed according to the amount of time that the users will spend within the new serviced area: shorter the stop and usage time, closer the buildings are placed to the highway accesses; longer the stop and usage time, farther away from the highway the functions are located. This setting will result very efficient from a functional point of view, optimizing the different flows of traffic, and properly managing the reach and usage of the different services and parking areas. The single buildings are shaped along axis parallel to the highway, ensuring an optimal and iconic visibility from the road, while act as a sound barrier, protecting the outdoor activities area from the sound and the view of the highway. The single volumes are shaped in their elevation in order to recall the local landscape features, as the mountains and the decorative stones, while the different sections of the roof will be treated with different materials, referring ideally to the 5 elements, and being functionally clever and useful, providing an ecological and sustainable impact of the project.
